It seems that the Black rifle is defiantly here to stay. Am I right? The AR-15 can see employed in as many roles as there are variation of this rifle; that it is going on 40 plus years now is a testament to its design.

Military Rifle, Sporting Rifle, Home Defender, Target Rifle, and Pest Controller, are all roles performed well by this rifle. But, for the avid or maybe not so avid hunter the .223 AR-15 seems to always fall short some how for the Big Game rifle. A role that the small .223 caliber just has a hard time filling. I know I am going to get 100 guys saying I'm a great shot with the AR-15, Id give him a neck shot. This is not what the rifle was intended for so I would personally recommend a rifle chambered in something bigger lets say a 308 caliber, kinda like the original Mr. Stoner prototype vision.

The 7.62 X 51 is an elegant cartridge. Powerful, good B.C, compact, and best of all .30 caliber, but not so brutish like the .30-06 or under powered like the .223. I hope you are still with me and this is what you would choose or that I've somehow convinced you in the last 45 words. If not, well probably won't so any way.

I have come across a rifle that has everything you need without all the bells a whistles that are not needed. The DPMS LR-308 Classic. I have become fond of this rifle and will list all of its finer points. And none of its bad ones because I can't find any that make it a no sale for me.

Like all DPMS rifles it comes in a hard plastic case. Also included with the LR-308 Classic is: A Manual, Cleaning Kit, Two 19 round Magazines, Sling and some marketing literature. The case protects the rifle in shipping very well, and also has a spot for all the accessories and even room for a few things that you might want to throw in yourself. The cleaning kit is a simple rod and brush that will store in the butt stock of the rifle with a little coxing. And best of all Two steel magazines that work very well.

The rifle itself is a Super-sized version of the AR-15 A2. Standard butt stock with 1/4 Click sights; 20 inch barrel, and the standard black ribbed hand guard. I myself find something very pleasing with a standard A2 rifle. A little more velocity with the twenty inch barrel. Also a better sight radius for us guys that still like to use open sights. The sight are simple and with a little practice easy and accurate to use. It also has a removable carry handle; so placing a scope on this rifle is as easy as loosening two knurled nuts and tilting it off and picking the appropriate after market high mount hardware. The trigger is a crisp 4-5 pound trigger, not 3 pound match type but a real world standard one. Now this rifle is not a fancy target type rifle like others in DPMS line up; no free floated barrel or match trigger. You can expect about 1.5 to 2 M.O.A out of this rifle which I myself find acceptable.

MSRP is at $1099 which is a steal for what you get, but you should be able to find a better deal around town. I really like this rifle and think you will too. It should put some meat on the pole this fall and come next spring be a great tool for a few tactical matches also.
